Arguably, the engine is the heart of any vehicle, the driving force that has captivated gear heads for countless generations. Passion such as this has lead to many advancements in the world of aftermarket performance. This drive to improve upon an already efficient factory design has motivated some outlandish engine builds; one of which is the most ambitious we’ve seen in quite a while.

We get to see some pretty cool builds both in our shop and through our readers. Quite often, the builds are much more than Detroit factored in when the cars came off the line some 40-odd years ago, and just about everything has been upgraded: wheels, brakes, engine, ignition, etc. But then there’s the crowd that wants to keep things simple, without all of the high performance parts promoting the musclecar look when the owner wants to maintain the factory look.

Anyone swapping the latest Ford engines into their builds knows that some creative measures will need to be taken when it comes to transmissions. The old standby is a manual transmission – they’re not easy but simpler when compared to today’s electronic transmissions. Performance Automatic of Frederick, Maryland, just made the swap a little easier for those who aim to put an automatic behind some of the newer Ford engines with its 6R80 six-speed Street Smart transmission packages.

It was January 2015 in Detroit, Michigan. Nissan’s booth was the site of tremendous tension as the media awaited the automaker’s brand new reveal. Here it was, the long-anticipated refresh of a tired, old half-ton; a symbol of the company’s resurgence into the truck market, and a show of force to the competition, saying look out, because here comes … a unicorn.
